FOOTHILL FELINES KIMBAKU!!

Silver Spotted Bengal Male Kitten at 7 weeks

We meet the most wonderful people raising our Bengal and Savannah kittens!! Case in point ... Jeanette, LaVaughn and Sandy, a very special group of ladies in the northern California area. They are devoted cat lovers and have been rescuing needy kittens for years and years. They have incredible experience and instincts with animals, and we were and are so delighted to meet them and become friends. They already an assortment of special pets, but wanted the new experience of having a pedigreed Bengal kitten. Kimbaku is a breathtaking silver spotted male, and he obviously took to this family very quickly, being the smart boy that he is!! Not too long after Kimbaku came to his new home, Jeanette, LaVaughn and Sandy decided he needed a little sister, and so "Bellamia" then became the next lucky kitten to live with them!!

Jeanette wrote to us soon after Kimbaku was safely home: "We are settling in fine. I stayed home yesterday to give our little one some extra time to get used to all of the new sights and smells, and he slept most of the morning. By afternoon, he was eating and pooping fine (Mario introduced him to the BIG cat boxes), and was starting to get interested in the cat toys. In fact, he found one mouse (a red-checked cloth mouse), that has become HIS prey, and he kept trying to carry it off my lap after pouncing on it and wooling it around good. He is sleeping the night in his cage in LaVaughn's room, and has slept through both nights until about 4 a.m. When she starts moving around, he wakes up, and she puts him up on the bed where he can play a little while, then snuggle up in the baby blanket. We haven't told Zena that he is appropriating her baby blanket.

"Mario has become his special friend, and runs to see what is wrong whenever the kitten starts crying. He licks his ears and gets him settled down, then stands "guard" so no one else will get too close. The kitten hisses and growls whenever the dog get too close, and this hurts Sammy's feelings terribly, but we keep assuring him he is a good dog, and the kitten will make friends in time. The little snow girl (Bellamia) is soo cute! She was so precious curled up in Michelle's pocket. Here are our first kitten pictures. LaVaughn had a time of taking them, because the glitter kept reflecting the flash!"

Several weeks later, we were thrilled when Jeanette and LaVaughn dropped by for a visit with Kimbaku!! We told them how extraordinarily handsome Kimbaku was becoming, and what a high quality silver spotted boy he was, and we even encouraged them to consider showing him. Apparently, this praise went to his head and he was very naughty after the visit. Jeanette wrote again: "Kimbaku has settled down since our visit. His first day back he was still trying to tell us he was a BIG BOY now, and did not want to be held or cuddled at all. However, after a few discussions (consisting of me holding him until he calmed down, and letting him go only after he got over the temper tantrum), he is back to normal. The interesting thing was that even though he got furious with me, he did not even once, try to bite me, even when he was giving his best impression of a mad growling tiger! Very interesting personality our little boy has, and I think we will be getting his little operation sooner rather than later!

"We went to the cat show Sunday, arriving just in time to see the Bengal adult and then the Bengal kitten judgings. Both of the judges were very good about explaining what they were looking for, what they were seeing, and why they made the choices they did, so it was quite educational. There was only one silver adult and two silver kittens, and I think Kimbaku would have done well against these particular cats, because his coloring is so distinct. It will be interesting to see how it develops as he gets bigger. We didn't come to any decisions about whether we want to get involved in it - it is certainly a lot of work, but we had a great time, and people were very helpful and friendly. We handed out your cards to a couple of spectators who did not know much about the Bengals, and referred them to your site to learn more. Hope all is going well. We will send pictures soon - hopefully some with Kimbaku and Bellamia together - they are certainly a contrast in every respect!"

Below are those wonderful pictures of Kimbaku, including some with Mario, his new "big brother", peeking out from their good friend Michelle's jacket, and later photos as Kimbaku is getting bigger and turning into that BIG BOY!! Check out Kimbaku playing with his new doggie buddy Sam!!
