ROYAL FOOTHILL FELINES RASHI PILLI!!

Rashi at 11 weeks old!

Rashi is now a very loved and pampered part of Madeline G.'s family in Bonita, California. Many people are concerned about transporting their new kitten, and Madeline decided to fly up to Sacramento, pick up Rashi, drive with him back to her daughter's home in Oakland, then fly back WITH him to Bonita as her "carry on"!! We think this is a great way to start the bonding process, and make the transportation issue less frightening for the kitten, plus the new owner can see first hand how the kitten is doing!!

We received this lovely message from Madeline the day after her big trip home with Rashi: "Here is the first news flash about the Royal Foothill Felines Rashi.... He was an exceptional traveler!! Rashi howled for about 30 minutes on the road and then settled down with an occasional protest when he tried to get up and realized his confinement. We had quite a long wait at the airport and he was attended to by many admirers. After a hearty snack of Gerber's Lamb with Rice and 15 minutes of play with an admirer he settled down for a nap. He was great on the plane and complained only a few times which was far less than I would have complained in his shoes (or should I say paws). He has been diligently exploring his new home; I am keeping him in a small area which has enough to keep him quite busy and he is very verbal which I am enjoying enormously. Rashi slept with us last night and checked out the whole bed scene from top to bottom. He found that he could hide under the bed and on the wooden frame but comes out when I call him. He purrrrs and purrrrs and I am crazy in love with him. "

"He and Nefret (Madeline's year and a half old female Ocicat) are not friends yet. They both hissed and growled at each other but Nefret is fascinated with him and continues to approach to watch him play. It's as though she recognizes that he does stuff she loves to do and is trying to make up her mind whether to continue to treat him as an interloper or to let go of that so she can have someone to play with in the way she likes to play. This morning I put Rashi's blanket, that you so generously gave, in front of Nefret. First she hissed at it but then checked it out more closely than she has been willing to get to Rashi. When she walked on it and claimed it in victory I thought, aha, the next step is coming soon. In the meanwhile she has her own turf and Rashi is content to play in my den and bedroom for the moment. He is more wonderful than I expected and I sure expected that he would be wonderful. I will begin to work with him on the "stretched out show hold" and will talk to you soon about what all is involved in showing. He is in my lap as I write this and has just peeed, eaten and hunted, not necessarily in that order. I found a place that carries the Sensible Choice food and it is real close to home. I'll start taking pictures this weekend and send you some real soon. Again, thank you so much and I look forward to all our future contact. Best regard to Wes."

A few weeks later, Madeline wrote us, "Dear Holly and Wes -- Rashi is completely and fully settled in!! He has full range of the house and he and Nefret play chase and whack alot. He would like to cuddle with her but she is not the cuddle type (except with Rachel, our daughter) and he loves to jump on her which she hates. He, of course, is truly wonderful!! He likes water and puts his paw in his water bowl, then washes his face. It's the cutest thing to watch. He is smarter than most cats but sooooo sweet. We are all crazy about him. We do have to watch him, like a baby, because he finds something new to do all the time. He's getting big and soon he will be too big for some of the spaces he now loves to crawl into. He is the most affectionate boy and quite a character. He likes to jump into the refrigerator to check things out for himself and I don't mean just standing on his hind legs looking in! He's everyone's friend and continues to voice his opinions on everything. His play is inventive, creative and often hilarious and he is absolutely unafraid of anything. Cowering in fear is just not in his character. He sleeps with me and wakes me when he wants to be fed. This he does by walking back and forth over me; if I'm not responsive enough or quick enough he yells in my ear. That certainly does it! I think his coat is becoming glittery. It's truly gorgeous. I might need to have another Bengal one of these days!!! Love to you both."

Shortly after, we received this update from Madeline: "Mr. Rashi is the best of the best!!! He's quite a character and although he loves everyone he seeks me out most. Can you imagine how happy that makes me? He goes to the vet on Monday and we'll probably talk about when to neuter him. He seems too young to me and I want to wait until he's 4-5 months old. He's growing beautifully and, as you know, is truly gorgeous. He is sooo loving and affectionate, always ready to interact and play. I can't imagine life without him and he was definitely worth waiting for. My patience was rewarded big time. I'll keep you posted about him and I love, love, love to hear about the other wonderful Bengals that I've met at your place."

Madeline continues to stay in close touch with us, and when Rashi was 6 months old, she took more photos and mailed them to us of her handsome, pampered boy doing his famous leopard rug  imitation!! "Here are some pictures of Rashi. He's bigger than Nefret and weighed 8.5 pounds at 4 months old!! I'm crazy about him!!"
