CH FOOTHILL FELINES MR. BIG SPOT!!

CH Mr. Big Spot at 10 weeks old!

Retiring our CH Mr. Big Spot from our breeding program was one of the most difficult decisions we have faced here at Foothill Felines. Not only is he a Champion and an absolute delight to be around, he has so many qualities we love including huge rosettes, big bones and muscles, great wild head and face, plus he was one of my first "bottle raised" babies!! However, after siring 2 wonderful litters for us, according to U.C. Davis and the testicular biopsy they performed on him, he had developed some kind of acquired blockage that was not of a congenital nature, nor would it affect his health in any way, but had in fact rendered him sterile. Well, once again we immediately knew with whom we wanted to place this most special of cats. Barbara and Chuck M., who live about 45 minutes away from Sacramento in the lovely foothill town of Pollock Pines, California, had visited our cattery and fallen in love with him. And, they had several other cats including a young adult neutered male, Tiger NoNo. We knew instinctively that CH Mr. Big Spot would enjoy an active Bengal companion, and was one of those extremely friendly and very adaptable adult retired breeder that would thrive on the love that this family had to give him, plus them giving him much more room in their home to enjoy and the chance to truly be a " star".

Barbara and Chuck have been wonderful about keeping in touch with us, and wrote us: "Dear Holly and Wesley, We made it home in the car with no problems, Mr. Big Spot only spoke once, when I talked to him. He even took a quick nap then seemed to enjoy looking at the passing scene. Here at home he has settled right in and is anxious to get out of his room to see the rest of the house. I put all the other cats in our bedroom and opened his door and he is having fun exploring. I closed off any areas that could be a problem so there is nothing that could cause him any trouble. He seems to know which room is his and comes back to it each time." Barbara's next update: "He is really settling in here. He has explored the entire house and now feels fairly comfortable around his new cat family. He sleeps on the bed in our guest room at night, which is now HIS room, he goes there on his own when we all go to bed. This morning he and Tiger NoNo spent lots of time chasing each other up and down the stairs, and he enjoys looking out our windows. He has been on top of the frig. and all the counters, so he knows his way around. We do so enjoy having him in our family, thank you."

A couple of weeks later, we heard from Barbara again: "The boys are having so much fun up and down the stairs all through the house and they love to play on their tree together. Today as I sat the table for lunch I looked up and there were two heads in the macaroni salad dish! ;-) Had to stop that instantly so both of them went into the bedroom to play while we had lunch. He is so very sweet and good. He just loves Chuck and rolls over each time he sees Chuck to have his tummy rubbed. He is fascinated with bird watching, in the mornings and evenings when they show up on the deck railing he is glued on to the windowsill. Last weekend our daughter, her husband and our son were here for the day and evening. Mr. Big Spot adjusted to the strangers as though he had always known them and they all think he is gorgeous and wonderful. Thank you again. So many people when they see him say "how gorgeous" so we have added that to his name. We call him Mr. Gorgeous Big Spot and eventually we will shorten it to Mr. Gorgeous. It's such a perfect description of him."

A few months later, Barbara (suffering from a broken wrist, but still graciously updating us!!) wrote: "Mr. Gorgeous Big Spot is such a fantastic cat it's unbelievable! He follows Chuck around just like an old family dog would do. He sits on the foot rest of Chuck's recliner when Chuck is there and leans against Chuck's legs in all sorts of positions. Then when Chuck gets up to go upstairs (our family room is downstairs) along trots Mr. Gorgeous Big Spot, then back down again, he hardly lets Chuck out of his sight. When Chuck calls him he is there in an instant. If Chuck is not around he loves to run up and down the stairs and play with Tiger NoNo. He is so very active and athletic it's such fun to be with him."

"It is interesting he seems to realize that Bengals are not the same as other cats. Because he and Tiger NoNo hit it off right from the first day two of a kind. But he does not like the other two cats. He chases them when he gets the chance. If we say NO in a very loud voice he will back off if it's Kiki, the old female. But he attacks Kitty Boy, the stray we adopted, so we do our best to keep them apart."

"Chuck is really in love with that cat. He said this is the cat he has wanted all his life. They are soul mates for sure. Thank you so very much for letting us have him. I am putting a couple of pictures in the mail for you tomorrow." And, here they are - CH Mr. (Gorgeous) Big Spot and Tiger NoNo at home, up close and purr-sonal!!
