GOGEES MICHABO OF FOOTHILL FELINES!!

Michabo at 5 months old!

Retiring our Michabo from our breeding program was another extremely difficult decision here at Foothill Felines. Mich had been a consistent and fabulous sire for us for almost 5 years, plus he had such a happy, friendly temperament, even as a breeding male. He was very easy to care for, and entertained all our visitors and us every single day. When Michabo was just over 5 1/2 years old, an opportunity arose for him that we simply could not pass up. The most wonderful family and home came to our attention, and we decided that our Mich deserved this family, and therefore, we neutered him and placed him into their very special and extremely loving home.

In the lovely coastal community of Eureka in northern California, Linda and Jim Isaac run a care home for 4 special needs adults with developmental disabilities. Linda, Jim and one of their clients made the trip down to visit our cattery and pick up Michabo, and it was wonderful to meet them. If ever there was a kitty custom made for a family, and vice versa ... this was it!!

Linda has been wonderful about keeping in touch with us!! Here are a few of her comments, starting with just prior to their drive down to Sacramento: "We're all set to get Mich....carrier in the car (all ready), the cat tree came yesterday and is now put together, all his food and other essentials are ready, as well. We can't wait. The clients are so excited they can hardly stand it! It was so cute, when the cat tree arrived one of my clients stated that she would stay home from her day program to help put it together. When I told her that I could probably do it and that I didn't want her to miss out on her program, she made me promise to call her if I needed help and she would come home! We will be only be bring one client, as everyone else will be spending the holiday with their family, so it should be a quiet ride for Mich." "Hi Holly, Well we made it home, and with only 2 hours of meowing!! Here's a pic of Mich admiring his surgery. So far, he's been checking out the kitchen."

"Hi Holly, Thanks for the info, guess I'll just have to quit worrying about him so much...but you know how it is being a "mom" and all! My husband, Jim, told the police department where he works about Mich, and they all want me to bring him down there. That is so cute. Probably will do that later on when he is use to us. Since I wrote you this morning he has gone "pee" a little, and eaten a little. Guess that is better than nothing. I sat in the bathroom with him several times showing him the litter box and finally he went. I had been up since 3am stressing out about this audit, so maybe he is picking up on that!!! He does seem to love the cat tree, he can hide in there!" "Just an update on Mich. He loved the toys you sent, especially the ball with the rattle and catnip cigar. He went nuts over them. Thank you for sending them. He's gone #1, but not #2 yet... perhaps today as he has eaten more. Thanks for providing us with such a wonderful cat. The clients are so happy to have Mich here. They adore him. Have a good day, and once again thank you for taking such good care of Mich so we could be blessed with such a wonderful cat."

"Thought I would fill you in on Mich's antics today (and of all days when the IRS person was coming over for the audit appointment)!! First he climbed behind the computer and stepped on the power surge and shut off the computer and fax machine. Since I was expecting some paper work to be faxed from the Ukiah Regional Center for the IRS, I had to have my husband come home from work to get it working again, then when the fax was coming through (25 pages) my ink cartridge ran out and I had to call Ukiah back and have it re-faxed....then I went into the bathroom right before they were to arrive and Mich had unrolled a whole new roll of toilet paper onto the bathroom floor. It looked like my bathroom had been T P'd!! My husband was laughing so hard he could hardly stop. That was the funny side, now all I have to do is come up with those receipts. Doesn't get any better than this."

"Mich has had to have a couple of 'time outs' from pulling the curtains down and jumping up on the screen in my sun porch room and tearing them down, but not to worry...we love him. The other day I gave him a box with a paper bag in it and he played and hid in it for an hour. You were totally right, he is a little clown. My husband calls him a little monkey! I can't wait to wake up in the morning to play with him. Are you going to use Mich Jr. as a breeding cat? Just wondering if you have heard of Mich's offspring having the same temperament that he does. Are those traits passed down to the kittens? I have another meeting with the IRS this Thursday to take in some more receipts, and the final audit is supposed to be done May 5th. I will be so glad when it's over! I totally have my upstairs where Jim and I live (the clients have the main floor) covered with receipts EVERYWHERE. I have kept Mich out of that area until the audit is over...that was until last night and he opened the stairway door. That little bugger. I heard his little bell that was on his collar and was able to catch him before he did to much damage. He is soooo nosy!! So far, he has learned to sit, go to his crate, and get on his cat tree. He's such a smart cat. He is learning his tricks so quickly. I am going to start "toilet training" him soon."

Below are some of the wonderful pictures Linda has sent to us of Michabo in his new home; first in his new cat tree, and second with the flowers he got Linda for Mother's Day!! (She told me this was the only time he has been allowed on the kitchen table -- he sure does look guilty!!)
