FOOTHILL FELINES MERRIMELO!!

For lovely blue-eyed, seal lynx point spotted snow Bengal, Foothill Felines Merrimelo, bad timing brought an early end to her possible breeding career. We had her in with our wonderful CH Foothill Felines Mr. Big Spot for over a year, during which time the two of them bred several times, but no pregnancies resulted. It was several months later that we realized it was CH Mr. Big Spot who apparently was the one with the fertility problem, but by that time, Merrimelo had developed a condition known as "cystic ovaries". This condition is not harmful to the animal's health if they are spayed (this surgery of course removes both ovaries and uterus of the female), but once the ovaries start having cysts form on them, either spontaneously or chronically, this usually renders the female cat then incapable of conceiving. So, we were not able to have any kittens from this lovely girl; however, our loss was the gain for a wonderful family located not far from us - Gary and Lori Z., and their 3 children, plus 2 Springer spaniels, and a neutered 7 year old Siamese male.

Merrimelo joined this delightful family early in 2001, and apparently took to them all right away!! She's a very smart girl!! And, while Gary and Lori are still on our list for a Bengal kitten, they now have Merrimelo and her antics to entertain them also!! Gary wrote, "Merri is settling in very well. She is already the queen of our room, and is making friends with our older Siamese. She isn't quite sure of the puppies yet, but is intent on investigating the whole house, including her new 6 foot cat condo. We hope everything goes well with the new kittens, keep us posted on what is going to be available. Thanks, Gary and Lori, and Merri."
