FOOTHILL FELINES MARBILOUS!!

Marbi at 5 weeks old!

Gordon and Lisa W. were looking for a very mellow, easy going cat to fit in with their busy family which included two young and VERY active boys!! We thought that Marbi, at almost 3 years old, would be purr-fect, as he always was the first to start playing fetch and with wand toys, and only stopped when he was absolutely exhausted!! Marbi is a brown marbled Bengal, the son of Gogees Maverick of Foothill Felines and Melissa. He is the sister to Foothill Felines Marissa, who is the mother of Foothill Felines Malarki and Foothill Felines Merlot. We were originally planning to use Marbi for breeding, but due to a variety of circumstances, we did not, and had him neutered at the age of 13 months. At the age of 3 years, Marbi was still very young, and will hopefully have many many more years ahead of him, yet he was mature and well past the sometimes hectic stage of "kittenhood". Below is a wonderful update of the first week with Marbi in his new home, after his airline flight to join his new family.

"Hi, Guys -- I think I last updated you on Fri. evening. As I recall, Marbi spent most of the day under the bed on Sat., but late that afternoon we were all downstairs in the family room, and the kids were quiet and happy, so I went in, and with very little coaxing, he came out. We had a nice long visit, and he started exploring more, and purring more, and when one of us made a more abrupt move, he darted toward the bedroom, but stopped short of going back under the bed."

"As usual, the volume went up during the boys' bathtime and remained pretty high until we got the monkeys to bed, which didn't particularly suit the feline. But afterward, Lisa and I came back downstairs to watch TV, and we weren't down here 5 minutes and out came Marbi for more affection and exploration. And purring. We were down here for a couple hours, and he had an absolutely wonderful time except when one of us would go up or come down the stairs. He wasn't at all sure what to think of them. It wasn't too long though, until his curiosity got the best of him and he decided that those stairs had to be conquered. Of course upstairs (the main floor ), is another whole world, with opened screened windows that we can look out of, and furniture that we're not supposed to be on, and all sorts of fun things."

"I have no idea what he did during the night on Sat., i.e. no hair or footprints around. I slept in a little on Sunday morning, and Lisa came in and told me that the kids were downstairs playing with Marbi, and had been for about a 1/2 hour. A friend of Lisa's, who also has two little boys, came over on Sunday, and with 4 of them around, he stayed under the bed most of the day. Given a choice I would have joined him. But as things calmed down that evening and each evening thereafter, he's been more curious, and markedly more sociable."

"He still isn't entirely comfortable with the kids, or the house yet. The house, while it clearly is becoming home, has it's own unique noises, which he's not completely familiar with yet. That's in large part due to the fact that it's a multi-level home rather than one level. The footsteps and muffled noises from upstairs bug him. I've been really pleased with the boys, though. They're energetic, happy boys, and generate more racket than Marbi's used to, but their behavior toward him and with him has been nothing less than exemplary."

"I've given you bits and pieces of the long story, and you can probably fill in many of the blanks. The short story is that we find him to be an extraordinary cat. He's bright as the dickens, got personality plus, and doesn't have annoying habit one. He talks less than most cats I've known, but I've never met one that has a better motor! It will be a few more days at least, until this is home, but we're making progress, noticeably so, each day." Below, Marbilous at 2 1/2 years old!!
