Cindy and Jim S. in Virginia have been following our website and kittens for quite some time. Cindy has always told me that she especially appreciates the tawny colored, or more natural colored Bengals. Foothill Felines Madison is one of her favorites of our Bengals. She and her family also are the proud owners of a large male Bengal, Misha, and a rather elderly Siamese, LB. A very special dog, Nick, was sort of the central hub of their family, and unfortunately, he recently passed away and is deeply missed. Perhaps this was Klara's main mission - to join this family and help them to move through the grief process of this difficult loss. Klara did get to meet Nick, and they were able to share time together. Klara was also part of our Hollywood photo shoot in January 2004. I'm going to let Cindy express some of their family experiences with Klara in her own words, starting with the first weekend Klara arrived:
"Klara is the sweetest little girl I have ever seen. She hasn't scratched once, she loves to play and this morning the minute she saw me she started purring. I felt so awful having to leave her by herself for all day. I almost called in sick. I think she is homesick. Yesterday she went in her kennel and got kind of sad looking. I know she misses everybody there. Misha is still being a twit but he did decide to sleep with us last night and gave me a couple of nose kisses this morning. He will sit and watch Klara and only hiss if she looks at him. I was dragging the Whirly Bird along on the floor in hopes that Misha would play but he only sat there and growled. Klara ran up to him once and scared him to death it looked like. He ran the other way. He was funny last night, he went to where he stashes his toys and looked like he was taking inventory, to make sure Klara didn't have anything that belonged to him. I noticed that Klara takes her toys off too. She has a stash under the chair. Klara, bless her heart, is scared to come downstairs. She ventured down once yesterday and was met by a hissing twit and a dinosaur that passes as a dog. She was going to ignore Misha but Nick was too much and all she saw was the back of him. He was lying on the floor and didn't even see her. Oh, Klara is scared of Jim. I don't know if it's because he's a big person and has a loud voice or if he just hasn't spent the time with her I have. Last night he went and played feather with her and she did come out and play but she was keeping an eye on him. Guess it will just take time to get used to all these new things, people and animals. I saw her glitter yesterday when she was in the sun. She is absolutely beautiful and is the sweetest little thing in the world. Thank you for letting me have her. Just thought I would update you on the going ons at my house."
And, soon after that, Cindy wrote: "Misha and Klara have been chasing each other around all night having a most wonderful time! It's amazing how much noise two cats can make. He finally realized that Klara speaks bengal and likes the same games he likes and is much better at playing chase than I am. We only had one altercation and that's when she snatched the fishing fly toy in mid air and took off under the bed with it. He took it back and laid on top of it and growled. That's his favorite toy in the world. Guess he isn't ready to share that yet. He even let her get in his cat tree! I think they are well on their way to being the best of friends. I'm thrilled!"
And, later: "She is doing wonderfully. She is an absolute joy to be around. She does such silly stuff we are calling her Klara Bell, that was the clown on Howdy Doody. She decided last night that she wanted Jim's pepsi, stood up on hind legs grabbed the glass with her front paws and stuck her head in the glass to drink, never knocked the glass over! She also went after my coffee this morning. She has started to fetch with her little lizard toy. She will bring it back and drop it close to my feet and wait for me to throw it again. She and Misha are doing ok. He is fine most of the time now and they play and it's almost like he gets mad over something and will start hissing and growling occassionally. I just distract him with something and he forgets about it. Oh and the disputed fishing fly toy has disappeared. Somebody has dragged it off and hid it! If I can't find it this weekend when I clean I will have to order some more. They both love them." What a beautiful girl Klara has turned out to be, and we truly love receiving all these updates and pictures!! Just look at the wonderful pictures below of Klara, at home in Virginia, including a recent house party she and Misha threw for a neighborly raccoon!!
